Where's My Baby?

OK, I'm having a hard time with this. Call me silly....OK. I'm thrilled that Ian is growing, developing and becoming quite the little man. But...I'm missing the baby that we brought home from India. He's growing up way to fast for me. Charlie thinks I'm nuts...and I may be, but tonight it was really hard for me. He goes back and forth about his night time bottle. That's always been snuggle time for us. For the past few nights, he hasn't wanted his bottle. Probably only 3 nights in the past 10 has he wanted a bottle. That's the only bottle he takes. We were down to 2 and then the morning one went away about 6 weeks ago. Now, the night time one seems to be going too. I know that's a good thing. I'm being selfish, but I can't help it right now. I looked at him on Sunday when he was eating dinner and he looked like such a little boy.

He's moving right along. He stands more than he crawls right now. He has only let go one or two times. When I think about the fact that he wasn't even crawling when we got him (almost 4 months ago), he's come a really long way. I'm having a hard time with him giving up the bottle, I'll be a mess when he's walking around and doesn't need me to carry him anymore.

He's VERY vocal and VERY determined. Today, Miss Stacie (at daycare) told us that he wanted his milk before he ate his lunch today. When she didn't give it to him right away....he threw his food on the floor. He gets that temper from Charlie :) Dr. Sood told us that instead of terrible twos, they start at one now. I believe it. He's constantly saying something...not sure what most of the time...but something. He does say several things clearly (light, mom mom mom, dadddddeee, dog, bath, bye bye, hey, hi, outs (outside) and bock (block)). He knows where his nose, ears, hands, feet and toes are. He knows where daddy's and mommy's are too. He still loves bath time...but doesn't like splash day at daycare or his little pool. He loves his Curious George stuffed monkeys. I got a small one for him a couple of months ago and he immediately kissed it and said "aaaawwww". Last week, I got him the Tickle Giggle Curious George. Ian loves it too. Kisses it everytime he sees it and says "aaaawwwww". We can ask him where George is and he'll go find it and then kiss it. He's got the blowing kisses thing down. He doesn't know quite when to do it....lots of times he blows kisses to the light....but he's sure cute doing it. He's a very affectionate little guy.

We have a doctors appointment next week for his 15 month check up (and his ear re-check). I'm anxious to see how much he's grown. He feels heavier to me and he looks taller. Although, his 12 month clothes are still way to big on him.

My baby is becoming a toddler. I'm excited, yet sad...but I'll make it through this little emotional pitty party.

Continued Amazement

Every day Ian does something that surprises us. It seems like he just doing more and more "stuff" every single day. He really had a great weekend. He woke up very early yesterday morning and by 5:30am we were all up and in the kitchen eating Cheerios.

We finally took a short nap around 8:30am and slept until about 10:00am yesterday. Then we got ready to go the the Dillon Adoption Workshop. We are one of the only India families in Tulsa and there's a time during the workshop where families come in with their children. We're always glad to share our story and talk to anyone about adoption. While it was a challenging process, it was all God's plan and HIS perfect timing. There's no doubt in our minds that Ian is the child that God has chosen for us.

We ran into 2 couples that we knew at the workshop. We are very excited to hear that they are pursuing international adoption through Dillon.

After the workshop we went to this great little barbecue place in Broken Arrow (Stone Mill Barbecue). It was really good and Ian ate like a little piglet. After lunch, we met Donna, Mike & Ryan at the Asian American Festival. What a difference a year makes. Last year during this festival, Donna & Mike had just received Ryan's referral. We, on the other hand, hand just been told that it would be at least the end of July before any referrals started happening. This year was different. Both of us had our boys home and enjoying the fun and festivities. We met several people from the India Association of Tulsa. We enjoyed visiting with them. We were only there about an hour and then we headed home. Ian was getting really sleepy (I wonder why...could it be because he got up at 4:15am...hmmmmm?).

After a nap Ian woke up in a great and playful mood. He's crawling more and more. But...now he's standing more and more. If he can pull up on it...he does. He started cruising around the hearth yesterday, and a little on around the couch. He's not still much anymore.

The big thing this weekend was eating. He's never really been interested in picking up food with his hands. That changed this weekend. If we put bite sized pieces of things in front of him, he picks them up and eats them. It's the cutest thing. Today after church we came home because we thought he was sleeping in the car and ready for a nap. Wrong. He was wide awake by the time we got in the house. So, we decided to go out to eat lunch. We ended up at Lonestar. I ordered him a grilled cheese sandwich and fries. Before our lunch arrived, they brought us some bread. I tore off a few small pieces and put them on the table. Ian picked them up and ate them. When his food arrived I just broke off fries and sandwich pieces and put them on the table. He ate his lunch all by himself....just like a big boy. The same thing happened with dinner this evening.

Our Sooner Start case worker will be here tomorrow morning. She's going to be very proud of Ian. We had to set some short term goals when we did his plan. The two goals that we set were pulling up to stand and feeding himself by 15 months. He's met both of those goals now and he's not 15 months old yet.

A couple of new words creeped into his vocabulary this weekend. "outs"...as he's pointing to go outside, and "bock" (block). He jabbered a lot more this weekend. I think he's feeling better. I didn't notice a single tug on the ears today. Hopefully they're doing better.

Oh....one more thing...how could I forget this? We received the report from the neurosurgeon yesterday. Ian's CT scans and x-rays were normal. He did say that most children have their shunts replaced around the time they are 5 or 6 years old. At that time, they put in the "adult version. It's an outpatient procedure. That surprised me....but in a good way. We will continue to pray that his shunt functions properly and that we only have to have that one revision when he's 5 or 6.

Today in church we sang the chorus "Thank You Lord, I just want to Thank You Lord"....Charlie and I have so, so much to be thankful for. As we sang this morning, I was filled with emotion and gratitude. God gave us our son, but not only that...He gave us His son so that we could have eternal life. Thank You Lord....I just want to Thank You Lord.

Ear Update

After a visit to the Doctor's office yesterday afternoon, Ms. Jodi (the nurse practitioner) confirmed that Ian has another ear infection in his left ear. That was the one that had the worst infection the last time. He started on a different antibiotic yesterday for 10 days. We have a follow up appointment on June 23rd (which is a re-check of the ears and his 15 month appointment). He acted like he felt great this morning and evening. I only saw him touching his little ear once or twice this evening.

He's moving around even more than this weekend. He's crawling and pulling up to stand a lot now. He was even cruising the hearth this morning. I giggle at him sometimes because he is so vocal. Today on our way home from daycare, I think he was telling me about his day. He talked all the way home.

He has a few new words - "this", "that", "ite (light)" and something that sounds like cup or cat occasionally. When our cats walk by he still calls them "dog".

Please say a little prayer that his little ears will heal and that he'll stop having these silly infections.

More updates as things occur....

Love to all of you who follow our blog. :)

Fish Are Friends

Surprisingly, Ian loved the Oklahoma Aquarium. He was fascinated by all of the fish. Especially the brightly colored and big ones. He was very content during our entire time there and loved getting close to the glass to see the stingrays and the jellyfish. The pictures are just a few from today. Can you tell that he LOVES his Daddy? Daddy's pretty fond of him too. Mommy...well that's a different story. He still calls me Ga Ga part of the time and "mom, mom, mom" the other part. The Ga Ga seems so appropriate since I'm so GA GA over him. He has me so totally wrapped around his little finger. But that's OK. All of us waited a long time to be a family and all 3 of us are enjoying it.

After the Aquarium, we went to Las Cabos to eat. Yummy Mexican food (Mommy's favorite). As always, Ian ate well. They also had live music today and our table was close to where they were playing. Ian watched them pretty intently and bobbed his head from time to time. He seems to really like music. Which is not a surprise in the Conner household. He took a brief nap on the way home, which ruined his regular nap. He was so tired but he just wouldn't go back to sleep once we got home. Finally we decided to take a drive hoping that he'd sleep just a little more in the car seat while we were gone. He did, but it's not like taking a nap at home or at school. He was a little cranky this evening, but not as bad as I expected.

If there were such a thing a run crawling, I think Ian does it. Whenever we open the back door, no matter what he's doing instantly starts crawling fast toward the door to go outside on the deck. This evening, Brad came over to visit. Charlie opened the back door to let Molly go outside to potty and Ian made a mad dash for the door. It's really cute to watch him.

It's been a long weekend but such a great time to be home with Ian. I'm pretty sure his little ears are infected again. I'm going to call Dr. Sood tomorrow morning and see if he wants to see him.

I love updating our blog to capture some of the special moments with Ian. He's now doing so many things that it's hard to remember all of them. I probably need to either update more or start journaling. I just don't want to forget any of this. He's already growing up so fast.

More as I get a chance...

Count Milk-u-lah

Count Milkulah (a.k.a. Ian) not only has a milk moustache...he has a milk beard.

Ian Gets Mad

Mommy's perfect little angel does get mad from time to time. He doesn't through these little fits often, but when he does...they're winners.

Random Photos & Thoughts

These are several photos taken over the past few days. He loves being outside. He's actually crawling like a big boy now. He still does his "combat crawl"...but more and more he's really crawling. He's pulling up like crazy and wants to stand almost all the time. He has discovered that cabinet doors open and it's lots of fun to open and close them...LOTS OF TIMES.

He prefers drinking from a cup. Not a sippy cup...a cup with no lid. He does pretty well actually. He leaks some, but not as much as I would have thought. His appetite is still great.

I think his ear infection has returned. He has tugged at his little ears the past couple of days and cries a bit more than usual. I have some antibiotic left over from the last one (because we changed antibiotics mid-stream). I gave him two doses today and I'll give him some tomorrow and then I'll check with Dr. Sood on Tuesday to see what we need to do after that. If it's infected again, it will only be his second ear infection. I'm sure a lot of it has to do with the "gunk" in the air in Oklahoma. He's just not used to all of this. It's rough right now on everyone, but especially little guys.

I'm going to post a few more pictures. The next set with be of the "absolute angel" throwing a little "fit". I know...It's hard to imagine, but he really does have moments when he's not the perfect child. Not many moments, but there are occasions.

Tomorrow is Memorial Day. We're going to go to the Oklahoma Aquarium tomorrow. We may change our plans and go to the Zoo if it's not too hot in the morning. If it's too hot, then we'll go to the Aquarium in the afternoon (after nap time).

We had our second post placement visit last Wednesday. One more and then we can finalize our adoption. It's hard to believe that we've only had him a little over 3 months. It seems like he's been part of us forever. He has adjusted beautifully and does not seem to have any attachment issues at all. We are so truly blessed.

More updates as we can.....

Mia's Home!!!

Last night we traveled to OKC to welcome home Ian's little friend, Mia Supritha. This was our first real road trip since we came home from India. Ian did great in the car. He slept most of the way to OKC yesterday evening and then back home again today. What a trooper.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites in OKC last night. We were only a few miles away from the airport. Since we don't know much about OKC, it was a perfect location for us. We ordered room service last night and had dinner in our room. Then we put Ian down so he could get some sleep. We woke him up about 10:15pm to get ready to leave for the airport.

When we arrived at the airport, there were a few people gathering to welcome Angie, Dustin & Mia home. As it got closer to their arrival time, the crowd grew and grew. We felt so fortunate to be included in this homecoming celebration. We really enjoyed meeting their family and friends. It was a special time for us.

When they arrived it brought back such memories to me. I was kind of surprised actually. I just kept remembering how tired we were but just how excited it was to finally be home with our precious little guy that we and all of our friends had prayed for for such a long time.

Mia did great with the big crowd that was there. She looked around but held onto Angie pretty tight. She's just beautiful....beautiful.

When Ian and Mia finally saw each other, I really think they remembered each other. Maybe not a lot, but they both looked at one another with that "I know you" look on their faces. Ian kept trying to poke her nose and eyes (he's into the pointing and poking stage now).

Just after midnight, we all sang happy birthday to Mia. She turned one today. So, so glad that she was home by her birthday.

We finally made it back to the hotel around 12:45am. After winding down a little and drinking a little more milk, we went to bed. Ian was a little fussy, but settled right down. He slept until about 7:30am this morning.

Our friend, Peggy, from Yukon, came over this morning. This was the first time she's been able to see Ian. We went downstairs for breakfast and of course Ian ate very well. He warmed up to Peggy pretty quickly.

On the way home, Ian slept almost the entire way. He was a little cranky this evening, but settled down and hopefully with sleep through the night. Tomorrow will be our first Sunday in church for a two weeks. Ian was sick the first Sunday we missed and then last week we were all sick.

I'm posting just a few pictures from Mia's homecoming.

Brave Little Boy

Today Ian has his "shunt series" (basically x-rays and CT scans). We had to get him up at 5:00am this morning. We arrived at St. Francis Hospital at 7:15am for a 7:30 x-ray appointment followed by 9:00am CT Scans. Because he's so young they were going to sedate him for the CT Scan.

Long story short....they decided to try the CT Scan first without the sedation. I was sure this wouldn't work because he doesn't even like to be still when I'm changing his diaper. But, surprise, surprise...he did GREAT. They wrapped him up in a sheet and then taped his little head down. He cried some, but not too much. It was pretty quick. No sedation....that is awesome.

X-rays were next and he did fine there too. He cried, but not as much as I had expected. Charlie stayed with him during the x-rays.

He's our brave little boy!!!

We should have results of the tests in the next few days. I'm not anticipating anything out of the ordinary...these were just routine tests that he'll have to have done periodically.

A Doctor Perhaps?

Here are a couple of cute pictures taken last week of Ian and our friend Debbie M. He's concentrating hard on the stethoscope....then I'm thinking he's ready to check Deb out. He's such fun and he truly does love a stethoscope. I think he looks like a natural. :)

Mother's Day 2006

Today was our first Mother's Day together. Ian woke up around 6:30am this morning. I went in to get him and then we were going to surprise Daddy. Ian's not very good at the surprise thing right now. He gets so excited and starts laughing. It's kinda cute.

After Charlie visited with Ian for a few minutes he said "go look on the dresser". But, Ian was busy crawling all over me so Charlie came back with a card. It was addressed to "Ga Ga"....that's me. It was a beautiful Mother's Day card from Daddy & Ian. Inside the card was this little jewelry pouch. After I read the card, I opened the pouch. Inside was a beautiful necklace with 3 diamonds. It is absolutely beautiful. Ian and Daddy did a good job picking this out for mommy.

Since no one in the Conner household is feeling well, we couldn't go to church this morning. Ian had a pretty good day. He played A LOT this morning and afternoon. We went out to eat later this afternoon and he started getting cranky. I think his little ears must be bothering him. He was tugging at the left one quite a bit.

Brad and Tim came over for a visit this evening. Ian wasn't in the best of moods. He smiled and played, but still a little cranky. After they left, we gave him a breathing treatment and his night time bottle. After that he was ready to go...ready to play some more. We let him play in the floor for a little while, then finally Charlie put him to bed. He fussed a little bit, but not too much.

Charlie and I were talking about how truly blessed we are. So far, we have been very lucky with Ian. He seems to be adjusting well, he's happy and healthy (except for the cold, croup, ear thing). He's very laid back.

Today was my first Mother's Day as a Mom. It was filled with lots of emotions. I miss my Mom and so wish I could have shared the moments of the day with her. She would have loved Ian and he would already have her wrapped around his little finger. I know she and Charlie's mom are watching us from above and probably laughing at us from time to time.

I remember when we were in the process of this adoption thinking about Mother's Day. Last year was rough because we were close, but yet so far from bringing our child home. Little did I know that he was only a few weeks old. Each day with Ian and Charlie is special and today they made it just a little more special for Ga Ga!!

Happy Mother's Day everyone.

Forever Families

Angie, Dustin & Mia Supritha became a forever family today. Angie posted pictures to their blog this morning. They look so very happy. We are thrilled for them and can't wait to see them when they return next week.

Shots, Paper Flowers & Cards

Ian is doing better today. He had a great night's sleep last night and got up in a really good mood. I received a call from his daycare about 10:00am this morning. He had just thrown up. Not like him at all. I said to the director that I wondered if it could be his antibiotic and he said that was probably it so I didn't have to come and get him. I called the doctor since it's Friday and I don't really want to spend the weekend in the after hours clinic. She said to bring him in and we'd give him another shot of Rocephin. So, that's what we did. When she looked at his ears she said that they look better, but not a lot. We do have to take him again tomorrow for his third shot (at the after hours clinic). But, he doesn't have to take the Augmentin anymore (which I'm sure he'll be happy about...it's nasty, thick stuff and he makes a terrible face when he takes it).

Charlie & I are still puny, but we'll make it.

Today when I picked little Ian up from daycare, they had made mother's day presents for the moms. It's the sweetest little plant holder with cut out flowers and grass and Ian's picture on the flower. Then the cutest little card with his hand prints on it. I cried and cried. How sweet was this? I'm tearing up now just writing about it.

It's about 9:00am in Kolkata on Saturday right now. Angie and Dustin go to the orphanage to meet Mia for the first time at 11:00am. I bet their stomachs are in knots right now. Soon, they will be a family of 3. As Angie says, their "2 1/2 year labor" is coming to an end. I just can't wait to hear from them and see how they're doing. Next Friday night they come home. We're still hoping to make it to OKC for that homecoming. We'll have to see how we're feeling by next weekend.

Better Today

Ian is doing much, much better today. He's not coughing as much, he's more active, he's eating more and he's smiling a lot more. Not quite back to normal, but getting better. He played well at daycare this afternoon and has played quite a bit at home this evening. Talking and laughing much more than the previous 4 or 5 days.

Our appointment with Dr. Benner went very well today. He said that Ian's shunt appears to be working well. He measured his head and said that he is normal. We need to have some tests done (called a shunt series), just to check things out and get a baseline exam. He's scheduled to have those done next Thursday, May 18th. The shunt series consists of several x-rays and CT scans. Ian will be slightly sedated during the CT's. Not all the way under, just asleep so he won't move around. Dr. Benner said that Ian looks like he's doing well and not far behind developmentally. We were very relieved when we left his office. We knew he was doing great but we just need a specialist to tell us that.

Gaga (a.k.a. mommy) is still sick. Not as achy today, but still pretty icky. Dada now has it. He started feeling bad last night. Hopefully by this weekend we'll all be on the mend.

We'll soon have word that Angie and Dustin have Mia. As soon as I hear from them, I'll post to Ian's blog. We're hoping to go to Oklahoma City next Friday night to meet them at the airport. We'll stay overnight in OKC and then try to go to the zoo on Saturday. That same weekend, another family from Kansas City is coming to Tulsa. They picked up their little girl exactly one week before we got Ian. Their little angel, Chandrima, is about 4 months older than Ian. I'm looking forward to visiting with them and having our kids play together.

I'm off to bed...Ian's already asleep and I think I'll take this opportunity to get in bed early tonight.

A Little Better...maybe

Ian seems to be a little better today. Charlie stayed home with him. We did take him to see Dr. Jones (Dr. Sood's new partner). She checked him out pretty thoroughly. His lungs are clear but his little ears still look pretty bad. She gave him a shot of Rocephin (an antibiotic) to try to get him over this little hump. He will start back on the Augmentin tomorrow. She doesn't think he needs breathing treatments (thank goodness). So..we'll hold on to the nebulizer and the medication for a while just in case this pops up again. She said that if he's still about the same on Friday to bring him back and they give him another shot of Rocephin.

He was more playful today, plus he actually ate a little today. He's eaten more today than he has in the last three days combined. Still not back to his normal appetite, but it's improving. He's drinking a little more too, which makes me feel better.

I've picked up some kind of bug myself. Sore throat, aching, etc. Hopefully I'll be better tomorrow.

Ian has his appointment with Dr. Benner tomorrow morning. Dr. Benner is the neuro-surgeon that we will see to monitor his hydrocephalus and his shunt. I've heard wonderful things about Dr. Benner so we're hoping that tomorrow's visit goes well.

Our friends Angie & Dustin left for India this evening to pick up little Mia Supritha. It's 2 1/2 years for them that they have been in this process. They have a beautiful little girl waiting for the half way around the world. Like us, they have never flown internationally so they were a bit anxious about that part. But...all of the anxiousness, frustration and pain ended today when they got on the airplane. Over 2 years of waiting is almost over. By the time we go to bed on Friday night, they will probably have Mia. I'm so excited. I just remember the feelings we had when we were leaving and then when we finally got Ian. God is so, so good!!!! We're praying for safe travel and a smooth transition for them.

I'll try to post tomorrow about our visit with Dr. Benner. Please pray that all goes well tomorrow. I'm just a little anxious about it. :)

Another Trip To The After Hours Clinic

We haven't been home long. Ian is now sleeping and I'm getting ready to hop in bed. He had a really bad day today. Slept most of it. Pretty lethargic when he came home. Didn't each much at all today and drinking only a little. I called Dr. Sood's on-call nurse again. She suggested that we take him in again. One to check for dehydration.

He's not dehydrated, yet. His ears are worse. Doesn't even look like he's been on antibiotic at all. So, the doctor changed the antibiotic and gave him a breathing treatment. That was miserable. She also did a chest x-ray. No pneumonia. That's a positive thing.

We need to see whoever is filling in for Dr. Sood this week (they are both out of the country). The doctor this evening wants us to give him breathing treatments 4 times a day until we see the doctor. I'm hopeful that we can get in on Thursday. Since he has an appointment with Dr. Benner that morning...let's just try to get it all done in one day. Who knows.

So, please pray for our sick little guy. He's just so miserable right now.

Sick Little Guy :(

Ian has croup and an ear infection. He started coughing on Friday night. I called Dr. Sood's answering service and talked with his on call nurse. She gave me some tips and said if he wasn't doing better by Saturday for us to go to the after hours clinic at St. Francis, or if he started wheezing to go to the ER.

Saturday he was not a lot better. By noonish he was coughing a lot more and seemed to be a little more congested. We decided to take him in the the after hours clinic. We saw a very nice doctor there who told us that it was definitely croup. His lungs were clear. But.....when he checked his ears, his left one is infected. So, he put him on an antibiotic and sent us on our way.

Today, he still has a horrible cough and he just isn't himself. He'll play for a little bit and then he starts crying. He sleeps in 30-45 minute increments. His fever is down, which is good. He tugs at his little ear occasionally.

I'm probably not going to go to work tomorrow. If he's still coughing like his is now, I'm calling Dr. Sood. I know that there's not a lot to do for croup, I just don't want to miss anything.

For those of you who are experienced mom's this probably isn't a big deal, but it's the first time I've ever dealt with anything like this so I'm kinda winging it. Say a little prayer for us...especially our sick little Ian.

A New Name for Mama

Ian is jabbering up a storm. Last night he was much more vocal than ever. He's says dog, dada, dadi, and hey very well. He started saying "gaga" last night. More jabbering I suppose. He just kept repeating it.

This morning when I picked him up from his crib he was saying "gaga" again. He just continued to say it. When I'd leave the room he'd say "gaga" and when I returned he'd say "gaga" again. Charlie said "Nad, I think you're "gaga"." Whatever.

This evening when I picked him up at daycare he said "gaga" again. We met Charlie for dinner and he would say "gaga" and kick his little legs. He said dada a few times and then Charlie said "where's gaga?" He looked directly at me and said "gaga".

So....we think mama is "gaga". We asked him several times this evening and every time we'd ask him "where's gaga" he'd look at me and smile. Today, I'm gaga....who knows what I'll be tomorrow.

I'm kinda liking "gaga"....who am I kidding....no matter what Ian called me I'd love it. :)

Gaga has laundry to do....nite, nite.

Mia's Coming Home

Good news....

Our friends Angie and Dustin have been cleared to travel. They leave next Wednesday, May 10th for India to pick up their darling little Mia Supritha. I'm so excited for them. They've been in this process for 2 1/2 years. They are scheduled to arrive back in Oklahoma on Friday, May 19th at 11:45pm.....just 15 minutes before Mia's first birthday.

Thanks to everyone for your prayers. We need to continue to pray for them during their travel and the transition time when they get Mia.

Thank you God for answering our prayers!!!!

Precious

Have I mentioned just how cute this little guy is?

He continues to blossom and grow into such a sweet little boy. I'm hopeful that he carries at least some of that with him later on.

He had a great day today. He has talked and played and smiled all evening. He's more mobile and getting into lots of stuff. Not sure exactly what he's saying most of the time, but he loves to talk (Charlie says he's just like me). He has now discovered that he can raise his voice. Not always the best thing to do in all situations, but we still think it's cute.

He is not the most patient child I've ever seen. When he's eating, if we're not feeding him fast enough, he certainly lets us know.

We had our Parents As Teachers evaluation today. That went very well. I loved our case manager. She was wonderful with Ian and gave us lots of good materials to read and use. He seemed to really enjoy her. She's coming back on May 25th for another visit and then again in June. They are off July and August, then we'll start up again in September.

Several Dillon families are getting ready to travel to India to pick up their children. Two families are leaving tomorrow and another one is leaving next week. We're still waiting on the final travel plans for our friends Angie and Dustin. They're just waiting for confirmation that the US Consulate office in Kolkata has received their approval. Hopefully that confirmation will come tomorrow. If so, then I think they're planning to leave next week and will probably get Mia Supritha on or around Mother's Day. What a wonderful Mother's Day gift. It doesn't really matter....it's a wonderful gift from God no matter what day it is. Please continue to pray for Angie & Dustin. I know this time is frustrating for them. I remember when all of the other families were getting their passports and making their travel arrangements and we were still waiting. While we were happy for those other folks, it was extremely hard for us. I know that this is difficult for them as well.

More updates on the Incredible Ian soon.

Dedicaton Day

Today was Ian's baby dedication at church. What a special, special day.

Ian woke up bright and early this morning in a very good mood. We all got ready and headed off to church. We decided to have Ian in his Kurta that we got for him when we were in India. It's still a little big on him, but not too much.

When we arrived, our friend Daniele met us. She had saved seats for us and our friends in the front of the church. She also taped the ceremony for us today. Soon, we saw Pastor Deron. Ian was all smiles. We did a little test just to see if Ian would go to Deron and he did without a whimper. We waited a little while before we headed off the the church parlor to wait until it was our time to go on. We ran into Brad on the way in and told him where to sit.

We waited in the church parlor for a little while, not long at all and then Annie escorted us to the side door of the sanctuary. After the greeting and welcome, it was time for us. Ian was in the best mood. Lots of smiles today.

When Deron started introducing us we walked out. He started by saying that this had been a long time coming. When we got onto the stage, he took Ian. Ian looked back at me for just a minute and then he was fine. He started laughing and kicking those cute little feet (bare feet). Deron talked about how all of the had come about and what we had gone through especially when we faced the decision of accepting Ian's referral. He talked about how there was no doubt that Ian was our child and meant for us. Ian was smiling and laughing through all of this. What a happy, happy baby.

Deron always asks new parents how they have seen their spouse change since the baby has been in the family. I thought it was kinda funny on Friday night when I talked to Deron, he didn't ask me that question. Now I understand. Today he said that Charlie was the first Dad that had ever beat him to the punch. Charlie emailed him earlier this week and said that rather than answer the question....pictures speak louder than words. Charlie emailed him the picture of Ian and I just minutes after we got him in India where Ian was already sleeping in my arms and I looked so content. I was doing great until that moment. Charlie can be so sweet and thoughtful....and sneaky sometimes. Deron had the picture shown on the big screen in the church. Lots of tears at this point....even sneaky Charlie had a tear or two.

God gave us the greatest gift when he brought Ian into our lives. Today, in front of our church family and our friends we committed to raise this child to know the Lord....a committment we do not take lightly. He has blessed us beyond belief.

Today we celebrated with some of our dear, dear friends who were able to make it to the church service bright and early this morning. Brad, Mike, Donna, Ryan and Debbie were all there this morning. That doesn't count the countless friends we have at First Baptist. After church, like all good Baptists, it was time to eat. We met our friends Stephanie, Paul and Molly at Mimi's for breakfast. We laughed because our table looked like a mini United Nations....India, Korea, China, Ireland and the US were present.

Afterwards Charlie and I came home and watched the video. Ian was sitting near me on the bed and then when Deron had them show the picture of Ian and I in the orphange, he made this cute little sound and started crawling toward the TV. Not sure really what he saw, but the timing was cute.

I'll post some pictures shortly. He's getting a little fussy and it's getting close to bed time.

Today was a special day for the Conner family and one that we'll remember always.

The Latest

It's been a pretty uneventful week so far. With the exception of a few sleepless nights, everything has been pretty good. He didn't sleep well Sunday night, so that really messed us up on Monday and then again on Tuesday. Today he had a great day at daycare. He's been asleep since about 8:30 tonight and he hasn't even made a peep. So, hopefully he'll sleep through the night tonight.

He's moving around a lot more and he's getting fast. He's still doing that combat crawl thing, but he certainly gets where he wants to go (and places he shouldn't). We've also noticed that he's becoming more vocal. He can now officially say "dog"...or as he says is "dawg". Of course he still says "hey", "da-da", sometime "da-di", then he does a bunch of vowel sounds.

I'm a little frustrated. I've had this whole camera dilemma thing going on since his birthday. My old digital camera has been in the shop since March 24th. Long story. Anyway, when Ian got his first haircut on April 7th, I took pictures with my old 35mm camera. I had the film developed and asked for a picture CD. I have the CD, but it's blank. So, I'm going to take it back to Walgreen's and have them fix it. That just really irritates me. When I get the electronic pics, I'll post a couple of haircut day. He did great and didn't cry at all. He now looks like a little boy and not so much like a baby (that's good and bad in my book).

We finally got our appointment set with the neurologist. We will see Dr. Benner on Thursday, May 11th. I'm looking forward to that visit just so my mind can rest.

Sunday, of course, is baby dedication. We're so looking forward to it. Afterwards we are going to go to Mimi's Cafe (at 71st and Memorial) for brunch. It's completely on the other side of town, but we really like it and it's kid friendly. We hope that you will be able to join us for this special day. For those of you outside of the Tulsa area, you can watch it on the web at www.tulsafbc.org Click on the sermons link and then you can watch it live at 8:30am.

Next Monday is our anniversary. Charlie and I will be married 19 years on May 1st. Wow. That's a long time. He's a wonderful man, a great husband and an amazing father. The past 2 months since we've had Ian, I've watched him blossom into this incredible daddy. Ian and I are so very blessed to have him.

Please continue to pray for our friends Angie & Dustin as they await their travel clearance to get little Mia Supritha. Mia's birthday is May 20th and we all want her home by then.

More pictures soon and updates as we have them.

Shots

Today we had an appointment with Dr. Sood. Ian had to get a some shots and a check up. He's doing great. He's up to 20.3 pounds (that a 2 pound increase in 6 weeks). Dr. Sood was pleased with his progress and development. I'm going to call the Neurologist's office tomorrow morning and set up an appointment just for a baseline exam.

Ian was a trooper. He got 4 shots...yes 4...and he did great. Much better than mommy. It's just so hard to see him upset. He only cried for a few seconds this time. He wasn't cranky or fussy at all this evening. He ate a great dinner, played and then it was time for our bedtime routine. He didn't make it to story time tonight. He was asleep shortly after he finished his bottle.

I'm hoping we can see the Neurologist in the next week or so. I want to get that done. I know that he's fine, I'm just antsy.

We don't go back to see Dr. Sood until he is 15 months old....which won't be long.

On a different subject....A wonderful couple that we met during this whole adoption process (Angie & Dustin) are close to traveling to India to pick up their little girl Mia Supritha. Mia was in a crib beside Ian in the orphanage. They live in Oklahoma City. I think it's a "God Thing" to have these two little babies who were side by side in the orphanage for several months just a few miles apart in Oklahoma. They have had a delay in their paperwork and are still waiting for one last thing to be completed before they can travel. Please pray for them. Mia's first birthday will be May 20th. Like us, they really want to have her home for her first birthday.

More updates as we have them.

Just A Reminder

We want to remind everyone that Ian's baby dedication at our church is Sunday, April 30th (not this coming Sunday, but the next one) at First Baptist Church (downtown Tulsa) at 8:30am. We'd love to see all of our friends there during that special time.

Also...Ian has another doctors appointment tomorrow (just a check up and shots). Please pray that he's doing fine and the shots are not too tramautic this time.

Sweet Little Tid Bits

Ian does such cute little things (like all children). I don't want to forget any of them, so I thought I'd jot a few down.

He loves to give kisses now. You know...those big, open mouth, wet kind. He was kissing all of his friends yesterday at day care. When he kisses...he says "aaaawwwwwhhhhh". Cute, cute, cute.

His sandal kept falling off on Sunday afternoon, so he took the other one off and handed it to me in the restaurant. At least he didn't throw it.

He's so very intense. When he's focused on something you can really tell it.

He loves to snuggle with mommy first thing in the morning.

He calls the dog "ga".

He LOVES to eat. He's becoming a bit more independent these days. He wants to try to feed himself. We've only let him try it a couple of times. He knows the spoon goes in his mouth, but he can't quite get anything on the spoon.

He loves to brush his teeth. We gave him a little toothbrush to play with while we are getting ready to brush his teeth. Then when we're ready, he hands his toothbrush over to us.

Even though it's nuts when it's happening, he fights going to sleep almost every time he's tired. He is just so afraid he is going to miss something.

His crawling is so cute. He's still "combat" crawling, but he's getting faster and faster.

He understands the word "no". He doesn't like being told no. His little bottom lip comes out and he starts crying. That hurts my heart.

Have I ever mentioned just how cute he is? Well...he is.

There are so many more, but this helps me get started.

More updates as I get a chance....

Ian's First Snow Cone

All kids love snow cones, right? Well...not this kid. I gave him a bite and he made a face, so I thought that he just didn't know what it was. So we tried it again. The face posted is the result. No snow cones for Ian!!!

Before and After Church

Easter

Happy Easter everyone!!!

Today we celebrated our first Easter as a family. What a glorious day. Ian got up a little too early this morning. He was awake around 5:30am...after a not so great night. He fell back asleep on our bed with Daddy. When we got him up to get ready, he was a happy, happy boy.

He looks smashing in his little suit today. I'm going to post some pictures after this post. He surprised us by NOT taking his tie off. He had in on until we got home. When I started to leave him in the nursery at church this morning, he didn't want to get out of my arms. That's the first time he's done that. I'm sure it had something to do with the week he's had at daycare.

Church was great today. We were back in the sanctuary for the first time today. What a wonderful day for that to happen. I always love Easter. The message today from Pastor Deron really spoke to me. The music was wonderful. There was a great special ensemble number by a group of men from our church led by my favorite singer...Bobby Hart. The song was called "The End of the Beginning." I wasn't familiar with the song at all, but it was wonderful and had a powerful message. How blessed are we to live in a country where we can worship freely and serve a wonderful Savior? I'm looking forward to the day when Ian can understand the Easter story.

Ian fell asleep in the car on the way home. We hadn't even reached the Broken Arrow Expressway and he was asleep. Playing is hard work. When we got home, he took a two hour nap.

After nap time, we had some lunch. Then we went out so Charlie and I could eat. I felt bad not cooking Easter dinner. But, I just couldn't get my stuff together. After we ate, we went to Woodward Park to take some pictures. Brad met us there and we had a great time. It was beautiful here today and the park was great. The azaleas are still in bloom and some of the roses are too. There were lots of people there today.

We've had a full weekend. Yesterday we went to Amanda's birthday party (Marcia and Bill's daughter). Marcia hid eggs for the Easter egg hunt in the back yard. Ian didn't quite know what to do, but we helped him find a few. Our friend Leslie's little boy, Nicky, was quite the egg finder. His little basket was over flowing with eggs. He's such a cute little guy. We got a call from Marcia tonight. It seems that one of the little boys at the party who is about 18 months old woke up today with the chicken pox. Ian is scheduled to get his chicken pox vaccination shot on Wednesday. Let's pray that it's not too late.

Tomorrow starts week two of daycare. I'm anticipating a tough day tomorrow since he's been home with us all weekend. Maybe I'll be surprised.

I hope that everyone had a blessed Easter. We certainly did!!!!

Grass Everywhere

Today was a good day at daycare. He ate well, played a lot, laughed a bunch and took a pretty good nap. When I got there this evening Ian was asleep on his cot. Miss Stacey said that the kids were playing outside (it was 90 degrees this afternoon) and he just decided it was time to take a nap so he layed down in the grass and fell asleep. She picked him up and put him on his cot and that's where he was when I arrived. She said she didn't have the heart to wake him up and brush him off. He was covered in grass and dirt. The joy of having a little boy :)

When I picked him up grass fell out of his pants and was all over me by the time we got to the car. He was in a great mood. When we got home, we changed his clothes and brushed the grass off of the bed. He even had grass clippings in his hair.

Anyway....he had a great day and we are so very thankful.

We're going to keep praying that this transition continues to go smoothly.

He has a follow up appointment with his pediatrician next Wednesday. He'll have to get 3 shots and Daddy has to take him alone because I have a meeting in OKC that day and won't be back in Tulsa in time. Hopefully all will be well.

In case I don't get to post before Easter Sunday....I have all of you have a Blessed Easter and remember that Christ is Risen...Risen In Deed!!!!

One Day At A Time

Things are moving right along with our daycare situation.

Yesterday (Tuesday) was better than Monday. He had a rough time in the morning, but was better by the afternoon. He ate his breakfast at home AND at daycare. But...he didn't eat much lunch. I wasn't too concerened about that since he had eaten a pretty big breakfast 2 hours before. He wouldn't drink anything that Miss Stacey offered him. She was so sweet and so very concerned about that. When I picked him up yesterday evening, he didn't see me at first. He was laughing a playing with Miss Reitha (one of the other teachers). When he saw me, it was like he thought "oooo, I have to cry"...so he did. Not really crying...just fussing. He was clingy again yesterday evening. But, that's OK. I love being near him.

Today was even better than yesterday. He had a great night's sleep and woke up in a wonderful mood this morning. When I picked him up, Miss Stacey was so excited because he drank all of his juice today. He again ate some breakfast at home and at daycare. He ate all of his lunch and even had a snack in the afternoon. He took a short nap...on the cot (which was new for him). They said that he was playing a laughing more today. He was very tired when I picked him up.

The major excitement of the day.....Ian was bitten by one of his classmates. The daycare director called me this afternoon and said that she just needed to let me know that Ian had been bitten today. They felt terrible about it. Miss Stacey said that he and some of the other kids were playing and one of them bit him. He has quite a mark on his little right hand. I felt so bad for him. I know those things are going to happen. But, just knowing that someone hurt my child gave me a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach.

Continue to keep him in your prayers. I know this week is tough on him and he'll probably have rough days next week and probably after that. I just want him to feel secure and know that Mommy and Daddy will always come back to get him.

We'll just take this daycare thing one day at a time and we'll get through it.

Rough Day :(

Today was a rough day in the Conner household. I went back to work today. My work was fine...just lots of stuff going on. That's probably a good thing...it kept my mind off missing Ian so much.

Ian had a horrible day. Actually he didn't make it all day. The daycare center called me around 10:15am and said that Ian had been crying since about 9:00am. They were unable to console him. He wouldn't eat, he wouldn't take a bottle. He wouldn't do anything. He didn't sleep well last night. He has a bit of a cold, I think. His little nose is running, but stuffy all at the same time. He has a slight...slight...cough. I think it could be the temperature change, allergies or the like. Anyway, he didn't sleep well, so I think he was a little tired. Plus, not feeling well made it rough on the little guy. So, Charlie picked him up around 11:00am and brought him home. He's been very clingy all day. When I got home this evening, he was very happy to see me, but I couldn't put him down after that or he whined. I'm not really sure what's going on with him, but I think he'll be OK.

I was really surprised when Miss Karen (the daycare director) called me this morning. He did so well on Thursday and Friday. He did great in the nursery yesterday at church. I kinda expected him to have a slight problem in the afternoon since we haven't left him for longer than 2 1/2 hours. But, it all happened this morning.

I'm hoping that he gets a good nights sleep tonight. We're going to try it again tomorrow (Tuesday). Charlie and I both have extremely busy and tight schedules tomorrow. I actually have to go to Oklahoma City for a meeting. Maybe the meeting will be short and I can get home a little early.

Please pray that our little guy settles in tomorrow. It's so hard to see him upset. The upside is I don't think he has any attachment issues with Mommy or Daddy. If his little cold is not better tomorrow, I think I'll call the doctor and see if there's anything I need to be doing besides giving him Pedicare.

Thanks in advance for all of your prayers.....

Last Full Work Day At Home

Today is my last full day home with Ian. It's truly hard to believe that we've been home 6 weeks and that we've had Ian for 7 weeks. What an amazing time this has been. I've enjoyed every minute of it. He really is a good baby. He has his moments (like at 1:00am this morning), but for the most part...he's just a baby.

Yesterday I took him to visit the daycare center for the first time. He will be attending Day Schools, which is a pretty reputable and long standing center here in Tulsa. I was able to stay with him for about the first hour and then I had a bunch of enrollment paperwork to do.

He's in a class with kids who are all under the age of 2 (there's one little boy younger than him in the class). But...he is absolutely the smallest one in the class. The little boy, Cortez, that's younger then him just started walking this week. Ian has pretty much mastered crawling, but walking is a ways away. Who knows though, it might happen sooner than I realize. Because he is so small, I think the kids thought he was some kind of toy yesterday. When I put him in the floor, they all ran over and started touching him. He didn't mind that at all. But then, one of the little boys decided it was time to pull his hair. Ian didn't like that at all (who'd blame him). He started to cry (which broke my heart), but his primary caregiver (Miss Stacey) immediately went over and redirected the other child and picked Ian up to comfort him. That made me feel better. One of the little girls, Eva, just wanted to keep kissing him. I think she kissed him 15 or 20 times. When I left he was fine and when I came back...guess what...he was OK too. He was glad to see me and I got lots of hugs and kisses, but he was fine.

Today, we took him back again for a couple of hours. No fussing, no crying....just happy Ian. When I went back to pick him up, Miss Stacey said that he did great and even played in the Jupiter Jump a little this morning. It's a special week at the daycare and today they had the Jupiter Jump there.

So...Monday...that's the big day. Charlie will take him in the mornings and I'll pick him up. I think the first few days will probably be fine and then he might have a problem with Charlie leaving...but then again....he may always do well. Who knows. I am anticipating that our sleep will be a bit crazy next week. When Charlie went back to work, that week was pretty tough. Ian may surprise me.

I'm thankful that I had this time to spend with him. I'm going to miss those special moments that we had each day. I especially love it when he wakes up from his nap and is such a happy boy. I'm going to miss the days of discovery. But, I have to know that while I may not be the first person to see a lot of his discoveries, I'll certainly see them all and many more.

For those of you still faithfully reading this blog...thank you. I love to write this stuff down as I can. Please continue to pray that Mommy will adjust well when she goes back to work.

More updates later....

New Pictures

These are pictures that we've taken over the past week. Today was Ian's first time in the swings. As you can see, he had LOTS of fun (so did we). There's nothing like the giggle of a child to melt your heart.

Question of the day..."Does This Child Ever Fuss?"

Charlie and I picked Ian up from the nursery today after church and the Pre-School minister chatted with us for a while. Sabrina is fairly new to our church, but I already love her. She's so kind and gentle and her love for the children is quite obvious. When we went to Ian's room to get him, he was busy playing on the floor with another little boy. He looked like he was having great fun. Charlie said his name and he turned around and flashed that beautiful smile and said "da-da". The workers in his class told what a great little guy he is and they were amazed at how happy he is. We started walking to the stairs and ran into Sabrina again. She commented on how happy Ian is and said "does this child ever fuss?" Charlie and I both giggled and said "oh, yes...especially around nap time or when Mom isn't feeding him fast enough." We really are blessed though. For the most part is he is happy, happy, happy. He smiles at anyone who speaks to him.

Tomorrow I begin my last week off work. It's hard to believe that I've been off 7 weeks already. While I'm looking forward to going back to work, I know it's going to be hard to be away from him all day. We have such fun and it seems like everyday he's doing something new or discovering something new. He has a busy week this week. Sooner Start is coming on Tuesday for his evaluation. Thursday morning we go to daycare for a couple of hours and then that afternoon he has his evaluation with Parents As Teachers. Friday, he's going to visit daycare for a little while and then I'll go back and pick him up.

With all of that, I'm still hoping to get him to the Zoo. If I get all of my stuff done tomorrow, we might attempt it tomorrow afternoon. It's supposed to rain on Wednesday, so that probably won't be a good day.

Sometime this week, when he's napping, I really want to write down alot of the things he's done already so I don't forget them. Like the first time he really crawled (the day before his birthday).

I'm going to post a few pictures from this past week. We went to the park just down the street from our house this afternoon. He loves to be outside. We put him in the swings for the first time. At first, he wasn't quite sure what the heck was going on, but then he got the hang of it and realized that it was quite fun...especially when Daddy made him go really high. Charlie called him his "little thrill seeker." I'd have to agree with that.

I'm getting ready for bed so I can be up and ready for my last full week home with Ian. My, my...time is flying by already.
